BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION ACCRA HOSTS UK-GHANA DIASPORA MIXER FOR A THIRD YEAR, FOSTERING CONNECTIONS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

The British High Commission Accra kicked off 2025 in style by hosting its third annual UK-Ghana Diaspora Networking Mixer, a highly anticipated event that brings together the crème de la crème of the British-Ghanaian community. This year’s mixer, held under the theme “London to Accra: Connecting Capitals for Economic Growth,” showcased the pioneering businesses connecting the two countries and highlighted the significant role the diaspora plays in strengthening the bonds between the UK and Ghana.

The event, which took place at the British High Commissioner’s Residence, attracted up to 600 guests, including notable attendees such as UK Parliament MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy, British Ghanaian Rapper Headie One, and Peace Hyde, Creator of Netflix’s Young, Famous and African. The guests were treated to a nostalgic Ghanaian “hall party” inspired cuisine prepared by sustainable food advocate and influencer, Mukase Chic, and entertained by two celebrated DJs in London and Accra, Capital XTRA’s Manny Norté and DJ Fiifii.

The mixer was a unique opportunity for the British-Ghanaian diaspora community to connect, network, and foster business relationships. As MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy noted, “It is brilliant to witness the pivotal role the British Ghanaian diaspora continues to play in strengthening the bonds between our nations.” The event also highlighted the growing trade between the UK and Ghana, which stood at around £1.4 billion in 2024, and the potential for further growth.

British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, emphasized the importance of the diaspora in connecting the two countries and driving mutual prosperity. “Economic growth is a top priority for both the UK and Ghana governments,” she said. “Tonight, we have witnessed the extraordinary impact of the British Ghanaian diaspora in connecting our countries and the role they can play in driving mutual prosperity.” The event showcased seven diaspora-led businesses, including PayAngel, an innovative money transfer app, and Yendy Skin, a skincare brand that uses African superfood ingredients.

The UK-Ghana Diaspora Mixer has become an annual highlight in the calendar of events for the British-Ghanaian community. Last year’s event, themed “Into the Future of the UK-Ghana Diaspora 2024,” celebrated the best of British-Ghanaian talent through culture, food, creative arts, and technology. The event was hosted by popular British-Ghanaian Actress Ama K Abebrese and TV Presenter and Broadcaster, David Alorka, and featured an exhibition of British-Ghanaian businesses and live entertainment by The Compozers, a British-Ghanaian band.

As the British High Commission Accra continues to foster connections between the UK and Ghana, the diaspora community plays a vital role in driving economic growth and cultural exchange. The UK-Ghana Diaspora Mixer is a testament to the power of people-to-people connections in strengthening the bond between the two nations. With its focus on economic growth, cultural exchange, and community building, the event is set to continue for years to come, providing a platform for the British-Ghanaian diaspora community to thrive and make a lasting impact.

In conclusion, the British High Commission Accra’s UK-Ghana Diaspora Mixer is a shining example of the vibrant and dynamic relationship between the UK and Ghana. As the diaspora community continues to grow and thrive, events like the mixer will play an increasingly important role in fostering connections, driving economic growth, and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the British-Ghanaian community. With its unique blend of culture, business, and entertainment, the UK-Ghana Diaspora Mixer is an event not to be missed, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for this exciting and growing community.
