Kenyan President William Ruto on Monday handed over a new team bus to 2025/26 National Super League champions Migori Youth FC, saying the support is part of the government’s wider efforts to empower young people through investments in sports and other key sectors.

The presentation took place at State House in Nairobi, where the President hosted the newly crowned champions and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating opportunities for Kenya’s youth.

“Hosted Migori Youth FC, the 2025/26 National Super League champions, at State House Nairobi, and handed over a bus to enable the team travel for their league matches across the country,” Ruto said in a Facebook post on Monday morning.

The President said his government is pursuing policies aimed at equipping young people to play a leading role in the country’s development.

“We are empowering young people to contribute to the transformation of our nation and become the architects of Kenya’s future,” he wrote.

Ruto noted that government investments in sports, the creative and digital economy, overseas employment, business support, affordable housing and infrastructure are generating employment and expanding opportunities for young Kenyans.

“Our investments in sports, the creative and digital economy, overseas employment, business support, affordable housing, and infrastructure development are creating millions of jobs and other opportunities for our young people,” he said.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to sports development, the President said Kenya is building and upgrading 34 stadiums across the country to strengthen talent development and provide more opportunities for aspiring athletes.

“In sports alone, we are building and upgrading 34 stadia across the country to support talent development and expand opportunities for young people,” Ruto stated.

He said the investments are already bearing fruit, pointing to Kenya’s continued success in international athletics and the recent qualification of the Junior Harambee Starlets for the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup.

“These investments are already delivering results. Our athletes continue to win at the global stage while the Junior Harambee Starlets team has made history by qualifying for the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup,” he added.

The President also announced that the government is constructing a modern stadium in Migori County to serve both Migori Youth FC and the surrounding community.

“In Migori County, we are building a modern stadium to provide the team and the wider community with quality facilities for nurturing local talent,” he said.

The donation of the team bus is expected to ease Migori Youth FC’s travel logistics as the club prepares for league competition, while the planned stadium project forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen grassroots sports development across Kenya.
