The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has disclosed that US forces have completed self-defense strikes against Iran.
The strikes were ordered by President Donald Trump and carried out on Tuesday evening, June 9, 2026 in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter by Iran.
CENTCOM says US Air Force and Navy fighter jets struck Iranian air-defense systems, ground-control stations and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz using precision-guided munitions.
It described the operation as a “proportional response” to recent attacks on US forces and international commercial shipping in regional waters.
In a statement, the Command says “CENTCOM forces struck Iranian air defense, ground control stations, and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz.”
Damages
Meanwhile, Iranian state media have reported that the airstrikes carried out by US forces caused damages to water facilities in the southern Iranian port city of Sirik.
A director of a water company in Sirik said US strikes targeted local water infrastructure.
