The outgoing director of Israel’s spy agency, David Barnea, has urged that Israel should remain committed to overthrowing the Iranian government.
He made the call while delivering a speech at a retirement ceremony on Monday, June 1, 2026.
According to Barnea, Iran was at its weakest after the recent war and that Israel should “complete the job.”
He says “I believed, and I still believe, that a change in the reality in Iran by virtue of toppling the regime is a possible and achievable goal.”
Barnea explained that such a goal would require “persistence, a cool head, and commitment to the mission.”
The Israeli spy chief says “This mission must remain as our top priority.”
