The public drama surrounding Nollywood actress Judy Austin and her former husband, Obasi, continues to unfold with new revelations. Following a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast—where Obasi claimed that the actress admired Yul Edochie during their marriage—a new video clip has surfaced detailing the financial support he provided her in her early years.
Meeting at 27 and Family Financial Background
Speaking on the podcast, Obasi recounted the early days of their relationship, stating that he met Judy Austin when he was 27 years old. Despite her family’s severe financial struggles, he decided to build a life with her.
“Judy Austin, I just choose her. That time I’m 27 years old. She’s a fine girl, but their pocket is not fine,” Obasi explained.
When one of the podcast hosts asked if the family came from a humble background, Obasi rejected the term, stating, “Not humble. They are wretched.”
Introducing Her to Mobile Phones and Funding Examinations
Obasi claimed that he played a pivotal role in improving Judy’s quality of life, asserting that he purchased her very first mobile phone.
“I’m the very person that makes her to know how phone used to be. The first phone she used, I bought it. Samsung, the one wey dey open that time,” he recalled, referring to a flip-style phone.
In addition to technology, Obasi stated that he funded her academic pursuits after she opened up to him about her struggles to pay for her examinations. He claimed that he personally covered her registrations for three major national exams:
- WAEC (West African Senior School Certificate Examination)
- NECO (National Examinations Council)
- JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board)
Asserting the truth of his claims, he noted, “She told me that the most problem she’s facing is WAEC, NECO and otherwise. I paid for WAEC, NECO, JAMB. It’s not something they can deny.”
Sponsoring Judy’s Cousin
According to Obasi, his financial assistance eventually extended to Judy’s wider household. He recalled a cousin brother living with the family at the time who allegedly began causing a disturbance because he also wanted to sit for the examinations.
“After I pay for her own, there is one of their cousin brother that lives with them that time. The guy started causing commotion in their house,” Obasi said. “I called him and asked what the problem was. He said he wanted to follow Judith and write the exam too. Then, I did the same expenses I did on Judith on that same guy.”
