Matchmaker Criticizes 42-Year-Old Woman After ₦12m Bride Price Demand Collapses Marriage

A matchmaker has publicly criticized a 42-year-old woman after her marriage plans collapsed due to an exceptionally high bride price demand of ₦12 million from her family.

The Collapsed Marriage Arrangement

According to the matchmaker, he had successfully paired the 42-year-old woman with a prospective groom who was ready to proceed with the marriage. However, the relationship abruptly ended during the traditional bride price negotiations.

The matchmaker explained that the woman’s parents presented a list totaling nearly ₦12 million, which ultimately discouraged the prospective groom. Following the high financial demand, the man ceased all communication and blocked the woman.

The Matchmaker’s Outburst

Expressing his frustration, the matchmaker questioned the rationale behind the steep financial demand given the woman’s age and marital history.

“You’re 42 years old, and I managed to get you a man. He asked for bride price, and your parents are bringing almost ₦12 million plus as bride price list. Forty-two years old, no children, never been married, and you have mind to be asking for such amount as bride price,” he said.

The Aftermath of the Dispute

Following the breakdown of the talks, the woman reportedly contacted the matchmaker to complain that her prospective partner was no longer reachable and had cut ties.

Addressing her distress, the matchmaker responded:

“Now you’re telling me that you’ve been calling him, he’s not picking your calls and has blocked you. I know what I went through before connecting you with that man. Forty-two years old oo. Now it’s clear that your village people are the ones doing you.”
