Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, says the US-mediated framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon clearly shows that Iran and Hezbollah have no place in Lebanon’s future security arrangements.
Mr. Netanyahu made this known on Saturday, June 27, 2026, saying the agreement is a major setback for Tehran’s regional influence.
He told Iran and Hezbollah “This is none of your business. You have no status here, no involvement and no role. Not you, not Hezbollah, not any terror group.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu says the agreement allows for Israel to retain a security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as needed, indicating that “We’ll continue to hold it until Hezbollah and other terror groups are disarmed”. He called the agreement “a historic achievement for Israel.”
He added Israeli forces would remain there until Hezbollah and other armed groups are disarmed, saying Israel would withdraw from two small areas currently under its control as part of what he described as a pilot project to transfer territory to the Lebanese Army, while keeping the broader security zone intact.
