The Federal High Court in Abuja witnessed a dramatic turn of events on Thursday, May 14, 2026, as the bail application for detained blogger Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, was abruptly withdrawn during the hearing.
Sudden Legal Withdrawal
The decision to withdraw the application was made by Barrister Marshal Abubakar. As a result of this development, Justice Crack will remain in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) until legal proceedings resume.

In a video shared online, social critic and activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) expressed deep disappointment over the situation. He revealed that Barrister Marshal had made significant personal sacrifices to attend the hearing, including traveling from Turkey just a day prior.
VDM noted that he attempted to contact the lawyer immediately after the session but was unsuccessful. Clearly frustrated, the activist blamed the outcome on personal rivalries within the legal team.
“All I can see here is pride, ego, and malice from everybody that was in that court. All of them just went there to make a mess of themselves,” VDM stated.
Internal Conflict Within the Defense
Sources familiar with the proceedings indicated that the withdrawal was likely fueled by disagreements within the defense team. Reports suggest a conflict broke out over which counsel should lead the matter, a confusion that ultimately led to the withdrawal of earlier applications filed on the blogger’s behalf.
