Nollywood actress Regina Chukwu has addressed the wave of criticism directed at her following a social media post shared shortly after the news of actor Alexx Ekubo’s passing. The actor died on Monday evening, May 11, after a battle with cancer.
The “Scheduled Post” Defense
Following backlash from online users who questioned the timing of her content, Chukwu clarified that the post was automated. She explained that the material had been scheduled well before the announcement of Ekubo’s death was made public.
According to the actress, the verbal attacks and insults began pouring in before she even had the opportunity to remove or reschedule the post.
“Fake Love” and Online Micromanagement
In a firm response to her detractors, Regina Chukwu asserted that while she feels no obligation to explain her actions, she is frustrated by the public’s attempt to control digital expression and personal mourning.
Key statements from her response include:
- Automated Content: “A scheduled post popped up at the time it was supposed to, and before I could get there, I have started seeing so many insults on the post.”
- Critique of Critics: She slammed users for what she termed “fake love,” stating, “y’all with fake love that always want to tell others how to live their life or how to show emotion ‘ori yin ti buru’.”
- Defense of Mourning Styles: She challenged those who criticize others for how they mourn or for supposedly not celebrating the deceased enough while they were alive.
Asserting Digital Space
Chukwu concluded her address by warning critics to keep their distance, emphasizing her right to manage her own social media presence without external interference. “Like you cared that much, don’t bring that here o. This is my space, and you won’t tell me how to act here,” she wrote.
