Former Governor of Liberia Central Bank Dies In His Sleep in Accra

Charles Sirleaf, a former Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia and son of ex-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has died in his sleep in Accra, Ghana.

Mr. Sirleaf passed away at the age of 68, a family source has confirmed his death.

His death was confirmed on Monday, June 3, 2024, leaving many in Liberia and around the world shocked.

The late Mr. Sirleaf, aside being the son of the former President, was a renowned figure in the finance industry of Liberia.

He served as Deputy Governor and Acting Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia under three presidents and an interim government from 2004 to 2020. During his tenure, he was known for his efforts to stabilize Liberia’s economy and implement critical financial reforms.
