President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hosted the Holy See’s Secretary for relations with states and international organizations, Paul R. Gallagher, at his residence in Abuja, Nigeria.
During the meeting with the Vatican envoy, the Nigerian President said he was looking forward to hosting Pope Leo XIV.
A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, says Gallagher was ushered in by Bianca Ojukwu, Nigeria’s minister of foreign affairs.
President Tinubu was quoted in the statement as saying that his administration remains committed to promoting peace, religious harmony and tolerance among Nigeria’s diverse faith communities.
The President says interfaith dialogue remains the most effective path to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
“I appreciate the Pope. It was an honour for me to lead the Nigerian delegation to his inauguration as Pope Leo XIV. It was a moment of history,” Tinubu was quoted as saying.
He added that “I see his efforts all over the world to promote world peace. We need his spiritual engagement, as millions around the world look up to him. I look forward to receiving him in Nigeria.”
