Nigerian fashion entrepreneur and celebrity stylist Toyin Lawani has publicly shared her frustration regarding the country’s rising cost of living. To illustrate the severity of the inflation, she highlighted her recent disappointment with a local street food purchase.
The N17,000 Suya Grievance
Taking to her platforms, Lawani revealed that she spent N17,000 on suya, only to be shocked by the small portion she received in return. She used the incident to paint a broader picture of the financial struggles currently facing families across the nation.
“I bought Suya 17k and they gave me 11 squares cube pieces, 5k cannot even cook soup for a family anymore, there’s no way your staff or anyone won’t steal from you this time, something needs to be done asap cos people will soon start entering each others houses to steal,” she wrote.
Desperation and Economic Pressure
According to Lawani, the rapidly increasing cost of food and other basic necessities is putting immense pressure on everyday citizens. She expressed deep concern that if urgent steps are not taken to address the severe hardship many Nigerians are facing, the worsening economic climate could push individuals to commit desperate acts to survive.
