Activist Omoyele Sowore Condemns ‘Abuse of Power’ in Arrest of Regina Daniels’ Brother

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has strongly condemned the arrest and detention of Samuel Ojeogwu, also known as Sammy West, the younger brother of actress Regina Daniels. Sowore described the incident as an abuse of power and demanded Sammy West’s unconditional release.

Details of the Detention

Sammy West was apprehended in Lagos on November 4 by security operatives allegedly linked to Senator Ned Nwoko. He was subsequently transferred to Abuja and arraigned at a Dutse Magistrate Court on November 6 without access to legal representation.

The court ordered his detention at Keffi Prison in Nasarawa State until November 28.

Family members have alleged that Sammy was denied legal counsel and kept incommunicado following his arrest, suggesting that the detention is directly connected to ongoing personal disputes between Nwoko and Daniels. The actress had previously expressed concerns over her brother’s safety, while her siblings, Lawrence and Sweezzy, accused Nwoko of leveraging his political influence to orchestrate the arrest.

Sowore’s Condemnation

Sowore took to Facebook to express his outrage, directly accusing the Senator and calling for immediate intervention from the police hierarchy.

“I have again been informed that the so-called criminal billionaire and APC Senator, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, has used his influence, in collusion with the illegal Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to have a young man unjustly imprisoned at the notorious Keffi Prison. The victim in this latest act of tyranny is Samuel Ojeogwu aka Sammy West, the younger brother of Nwoko’s now-estranged wife, Regina Daniels.

Sowore stressed that the alleged actions underscore a deeper issue of lawlessness in high places:

“It is deeply unfortunate that the unholy alliance of impunity between Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, sections of the Nigeria Police Force, and some pliant magistrates continues to thrive despite our persistent challenges to their lawlessness. I therefore call on the Nigeria Police Force authorities to immediately end this injustice and release Sammy West forthwith by withdrawing the bogus charges leveled against him.”
