Police operatives in Ondo State have arrested a 37-year-old ex-convict, Ademola Omokinwa, for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, to death. The brutal attack occurred after the victim demanded the refund of a N100,000 debt owed by the suspect.
The incident took place in Idanre, and was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade.
Details of the Incident and Investigation
The crime was reported by a neighbor of the deceased, Ngozi Gregory, which prompted detectives from the command to swiftly apprehend the suspect.
According to Ayanlade, the investigation revealed that during an altercation, the suspect “became violent and repeatedly assaulted the victim until she became unconscious.”
- The victim was rushed to the hospital but was tragically pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.
- The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
- Preliminary investigation has commenced at the Division.
The Commissioner of Police has since directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for a “discreet and comprehensive investigation” to ensure a thorough and professional handling of the matter.
