Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Friday that he did not support continuing the war, while calling for greater national resilience as Iran prepares for mounting pressures.
“I am not in favor of continuing the war, but we must increase the country’s resilience in the face of the developments ahead,” Pezeshkian said during a meeting with the heads of leading Iranian universities.
Pezeshkian said Iran must avoid being pushed into negotiations with its adversaries from a position of weakness. He urged universities to assist the government in strengthening the country’s ability to withstand challenges and prepare for potential developments.
The president also cautioned against economic measures that fail to account for conditions within Iranian society. He said poorly designed policies could worsen problems rather than resolve them.
Pezeshkian further pointed to efforts to broaden cooperation within Iran’s political establishment, saying former rivals in the presidential election were now working alongside his government.
He specifically mentioned Saeed Jalili, saying he had asked the former election candidate to help address the country’s problems. Pezeshkian added that he was prepared to delegate authority where necessary as part of efforts to tackle the challenges facing Iran.
