Michelle Obama’s Mother and America’s first ‘Grandmother’ Marian Robinson Dies At 86

Marian Robinson, the mother of Former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, has passed away.

Robinson who became known to Americans as the United States’ first grandmother after her son-in-law, Barack Obama, won the 2008 presidential election, was 86 years old. As America’s first grandmother, the late Marian Robinson was moved to the White House during the Obama’s presidency to take care of her grandchildren, Malia and Sasha.

Her family in a statement announcing her death on Friday, May 31, 2024, says:
“She passed peacefully this morning, and right now, none of us are quite sure how exactly we’ll move on without her.”

The family statement came from Michelle and Barack Obama; Craig Robinson and his wife, Kelly; and Marian Robinson’s grandchildren, Avery, Leslie, Malia, Sasha, Austin and Aaron.
