Manchester City’s young guns stole the show as they demolished Salford City 8-0 in the third round of the FA Cup. Academy star James McAtee was the hero of the day, scoring a hat-trick against his hometown club.
McAtee’s impressive performance was matched by Jeremy Doku, who scored twice and provided two assists. Jack Grealish also found the back of the net, ending his 13-month goal drought for City.
Nico O’Reilly, another academy graduate, got on the scoresheet, while debutant Divin Mubama marked his first appearance for the club with a goal.
The victory was a testament to City’s strength in depth and the talent emerging from their academy. Manager Pep Guardiola will be pleased with the performances of his young players, who took advantage of the opportunity to shine against the Class of 92-owned Salford City.
