Ex-Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has criticized the growing level of decay in some government institutions, condemning what he described as a troubling culture of dismissing criticism by asking aggrieved citizens to seek justice in court.
Speaking at a recent public event, Mr. Jonathan expressed concern over the lack of accountability in public institutions and suggested that some officials rely on compromised judicial systems to shield themselves from consequences.
According to him, “We see government institutions doing the wrong thing and telling people to go to court. When a thief tells you to go to court, just know that his brother is the judge.”
He says such responses often reflect a belief that court outcomes are already predetermined in favor of those in power.
The ex-President noted that “We see government institutions doing the wrong thing and telling people to go to court. There is this saying in East Africa that if a thief tells you to go to court, he knows that brother is the judge.”
