“I Would Be Unemployed”: Ayra Starr Reflects on Life Without Music and Fame

Afrobeats superstar Ayra Starr has shared a candid reflection on what her life would look like had she not found success in the entertainment industry, admitting that she cannot imagine herself in any other career path.

The Alternative Reality

In a recent revelation, the singer admitted that without her musical career, she would likely have very limited options.

“If I weren’t doing music, I would literally be unemployed. I don’t even think I would be a content creator because that’s a lot of work. I would just be chilling in my mum’s house and eating my mum’s food,” she said.

Her comments highlight the deep connection she has with her craft and how much she credits music for shaping her current journey and success.

Early Days and Don Jazzy’s Discovery

Since signing with Mavin Records in 2020, Ayra Starr has established herself as one of Africa’s premier global music exports. However, she still remembers the early days of her career when she was striving for industry recognition.

Reflecting on that initial phase of her journey, she recalled the sheer excitement of realizing that key figures in the industry were starting to take notice of her talent.

“I was so excited when I found out they were listening to my music. You know who it is,” she recalled.

Her major breakthrough eventually materialized after Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy discovered her online.

Regrets Over Oversharing

While discussing her career, Ayra Starr also opened up about the personal challenges that come with global fame, confessing that she sometimes struggles with the level of public exposure she receives during interviews and media appearances.

“I really wish people knew less about me. Once the camera comes on, I can’t stop talking, and I feel like I overshare,” she admitted.
