Nigerian afrobeats superstar, Ayra Starr, has reflected on the struggles she faced growing up in Nigeria, saying she used to sell tomatoes as a child and had little electricity supply in her home.
She made this known on Thursday during a conversation on equitable energy access at Global Citizen NOW in New York City, where Zain Asher conducted the interview.
The ‘Hot Body’ singer recalled how her grandmother sold tomatoes and pepper, and how they often had to sell the items quickly before they got spoiled due to the poor power supply.
She says “Every Nigerian child had a problem with electricity, or not having to depend on electricity to do a lot of things like food.”
