Ghana Launches Democracy Cup, Kotoko To Play Hearts In Maiden Edition

The Parliament of Ghana has launched the inaugural Democracy Cup, an initiative to celebrate the 30th anniversary Parliamentary Democracy in Ghana.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, spearheaded the launch of the Democracy Cup in Accra on Thursday, June 13, 2024. The launch ceremony was held inside the Justice D.F. Annan Auditorium at Parliament House and attracted a lot of bigwigs in the Ghanaian football fraternity including Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, and ex-Black Stars defender, John Paintsil.

Two of Ghana’s top flight teams and arch rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are to play a one-off match to mark the inaugural Democracy Cup.

The match is scheduled for Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
