American rapper Cardi B has spoken publicly for the first time about speculation surrounding her alleged romantic relationship with Nigeria Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye.
Rumours of a romance between the Grammy-winning artiste and the Nigerian international gathered momentum after the two were seen together during Paris Fashion Week in France. Okoye, 26, was spotted assisting the 33-year-old rapper to her seat at one of the events.
The speculation intensified days later when the pair were photographed dining with friends at Gio’s restaurant inside The St. Regis hotel in Venice, Italy. Reports also claimed they were among a group that watched a fireworks display together.
As the rumours continued to spread, Okoye’s former partner, Jelicia Westhoff, with whom he has a son, publicly accused the goalkeeper of being an absentee father.
During a recent X Spaces session, Cardi B appeared to address the ongoing speculation, although she did not mention Okoye by name.
Rather than confirming or denying the dating rumours, the rapper spoke broadly about her love life and the complications that can come with dating men who have previous relationships.
“I’m not going to stay single forever. I just can’t. I need to be entertained. The p***y needs love too,” according to her.
She also appeared to respond to the controversy sparked by Westhoff’s allegations, saying dealing with an ex-partner is often unavoidable when dating someone.
“Could I have picked better men? Probably. Maybe so. But even if I did, as long as a ni**a has an ex-girlfriend, this is bound to happen,” Cardi B noted.
“When I was 20 years old, I was dating this guy who had previously dated this crazy-a** white girl. She was obsessed with me.
She used to call my house phone, telling me to leave him alone. She even came to my job, this skinny little white girl. At one point, I was like, ‘Girl, please. I don’t want to have to beat you up.’
“Then, when I dated that scammer for three years, he had an insane baby mama. That b**ch was even crazier.”
