Beyoncé Sued For Allegedly ‘Stealing’ song released in 2002

American musician, Beyoncé has together with Sony Music and others, been sued for copyrights infringement over her hit song titled: ‘Break My Soul’.

Members of New Orleans group, Da Showstoppaz, reportedly filed a complaint Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in Louisiana, accusing Beyoncé of allegedly infringing their 2002 song ‘Release A Wiggle’ on ‘Break My Soul’.

Break My Soul is one of the songs on Beyoncé’s seventh studio album, ‘Renaissance’ which was released on July 29, 2022, by Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. ‘Break My Soul’ spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022.

According to Da Showstoppaz, rather than stealing their song directly, Beyoncé allegedly infringed their copyrights by legally sampling the 2014 song ‘Explode’ by rapper Big Freedie.

The song ‘Explode’, the group alleged, illegally borrowed several key lyrics from the ‘Release A Wiggle’ track.
