The Telegraph has reported that staff of the United Kingdom (UK) Foreign Office attended a reception at the Iranian embassy in London marking the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, just weeks after at least 36,500 protesters were reportedly killed by security forces in Iran.
According to the report, the event took place on February 12, 2026 and included British civil servants among the guests at the embassy gathering in London.
In its report, The Telegraph cited a video released by the embassy showing attendees mingling with Iranian officials shortly before the outbreak of war involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Images from the reception also showed a banner displaying portraits of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Ruhollah Khomeini, the report said.
During the event, Iran’s ambassador to the UK, Seyed Ali Mousavi, delivered a speech praising the Islamic Republic and criticizing Western sanctions.
Britain’s shadow foreign secretary, Priti Patel, condemned the presence of UK officials at the reception, calling it “disgraceful” in comments to the newspaper.
