The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has significantly escalated its response to allegations of child abuse at a Lagos-based daycare facility. Following a week of intense social media scrutiny, Director-General Binta Adamu Bello, OON, has officially directed a full-scale investigation into the matter.
Directives from the Director-General
In a formal statement released on Friday, February 20, 2026, the agency disclosed that Director-General Binta Adamu Bello has instructed operatives to immediately commence a thorough inquiry. The probe is based on “suggestive online posts” by Nigerian singer Simi, which pointed toward possible misconduct and abuse within a daycare environment.
The official NAPTIP statement read:
“Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Adamu Bello, OON, has directed Operatives of the Agency to commence a full-scale investigation into the alleged Child Molestation and Abuse in a Day-care setting in Lagos, as deduced from the suggestive online post by a popular Nigeria Singer.”
Call for Public Cooperation
Acknowledging the widespread public concern, NAPTIP has opened its communication channels for victims or witnesses to step forward. The agency emphasized that all platforms are active and available to take complaints from anyone who may have been violated or has information regarding the facility in question.
“Child protection remains our priority,” the agency reaffirmed, urging anyone with credible details to assist the investigation through official channels.
Coordination with Lagos State Government
The federal agency’s intervention follows a parallel investigative step already initiated by the Lagos State Government. The dual involvement of both state and federal authorities highlights the gravity of the allegations and the commitment of the government to ensuring a transparent inquiry into the safety standards of the facility.
Context of the Controversy
The investigation stems from resurfaced social media posts made by Simi years ago, in which she described her experiences working at her mother’s daycare. While the singer has maintained that the posts were jokes taken out of context, the detailed nature of the descriptions led to mass reports and a subsequent call for institutional oversight.
