The Ashanti Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service is investigating an incident in which a Jacobu District patrol team was attacked by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum while carrying out routine duties.
The incident occurred on 23rd January 2026 when officers recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and instructed him to inform the owner to report to the police station with the proper documents.
While returning from patrol, the team was confronted by a crowd of approximately 100 individuals blocking the road, armed with cutlasses and firearms. The group assaulted officers and seized a service rifle.
In the resulting confrontation, the assailant who had taken the weapon was shot by police, and another was injured. The service rifle was successfully recovered.
The Police Command would like to once again caution the public against attacks on our officers since perpetrators will be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law.
