The Palace of the Arujale-Ojime of Okeluse Kingdom in Ondo State has issued a formal warning to the general public regarding the appropriate way to address their traditional ruler, Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II. In a statement released on Friday, the palace emphasized that the 22-year-old monarch must be treated with the full dignity required by his office.
Protecting the Dignity of the Throne
The monarch’s Chief of Staff, Prince Adefemi Olorunfemi, made it clear that informal or derogatory terms will no longer be tolerated. Specifically, the palace noted that some individuals have been referring to the king using casual slang such as “bro” or “blood.”
The statement stressed that Alayeluwa Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II is to be addressed strictly as His Royal Majesty at all times. “Any deviation from this is unacceptable,” Olorunfemi noted, adding that such conduct would attract “firm and decisive action.”
Age vs. Authority
Addressing the King’s youth, the palace reminded the public that his age does not diminish the sacred authority of the throne. Known as the youngest king in Yorubaland, Oba Akinghare is regarded as Igbakeji awon orisa—the representative of the gods on earth.
The Palace highlighted the following points:
- Sacred Authority: The throne is sacred, and honoring it is central to preserving Yoruba cultural identity.
- Cultural Demand: Yoruba culture demands respect for constituted authority regardless of age or social standing.
- Misinterpretation of Calmness: The monarch’s tolerant nature should not be mistaken for weakness.
Background of the Monarch
Oba Akinghare’s journey to the throne began at the age of 16. While still a secondary school student, he succeeded his father as the only son among four children. His appointment by the kingmakers was later ratified by the Ondo State Government, cementing his role as the traditional head of the Okeluse Kingdom.
The palace urged all residents and the wider public to uphold the dignity of the monarchy as a vital part of Yoruba heritage.
