A chilling incident has been reported in Delta State, where Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, a retired judge of the Delta State High Court, was found murdered in her residence in Asaba. Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Security sources confirmed that the body of the retired 69-year-old judge was discovered by her brother, Emeka Okogwu, at around 8:00 a.m. on Monday during a visit to her home at No. 8 Tom Halen Street, behind IBTC Bank.
Details of the Crime
The scene suggested a violent encounter: Justice Okogwu’s body was discovered in the sitting room with her hands and legs tied and her mouth covered with a wrapper.
Upon receiving the report, patrol teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. The police subsequently transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Asaba for a discreet investigation to determine the motive and identify the assailants.
- Arrests and Suspects: The on-duty security guard, Lucky Matthew, was immediately arrested for questioning. Authorities are actively seeking another guard, Godwin Vanen, who is currently missing.
- Forensics: Police are collecting forensic evidence from the residence as part of ongoing efforts to track the perpetrators.
Justice Okogwu’s body was evacuated and deposited at the Maduemeie Hospital Mortuary, Asaba.
Residents expressed profound shock over the murder, describing Justice Okogwu as a quiet and respected member of the community. Security experts have urged improved monitoring and vetting of residential security personnel in light of the incident.
