Senegal’s Ministry of Health has reported 15 new cases of Rift Valley fever (RVF) and one additional death, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 302 and fatalities to 26.
The outbreak, which continues to expand, now affects eight regions, up from six the previous day, with Saint-Louis remaining the epicenter, recording 249 cases. The regions of Thiès and Tambacounda have reported their first infections, marking a wider geographical spread of the disease.
According to health officials, 227 patients have recovered, reflecting ongoing national treatment and containment efforts.
Former Health Minister Awa Marie Coll Seck has called for stronger government coordination and a multi-sectoral response to curb the spread. She emphasized the importance of the “One Health” approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental surveillance to effectively prevent future outbreaks.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to closely monitoring the situation and implementing measures to safeguard public health and contain the epidemic.
