Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, 25, was arrested on July 27, 2025, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport following an alleged domestic violence incident involving her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, 29. According to a police report obtained by The Athletic, the incident occurred at a TSA security checkpoint, where surveillance footage captured Richardson shoving Coleman multiple times as he attempted to walk away and throwing a pair of headphones at him. She was charged with fourth-degree domestic violence assault and held for nearly 19 hours at the SCORE South Correctional Facility in Des Moines, Washington, before being released on July 28. Coleman declined to press charges or be considered a victim, and the case has been cleared, per the report.
The arrest took place days before the 2025 U.S. Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where both athletes competed. Richardson ran 11.07 seconds in the women’s 100-meter first round on July 31 but withdrew from the semifinals. She is scheduled to compete in the 200-meter race on August 3. As the reigning 100-meter world champion, she has an automatic bye to the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. Coleman ran 10.08 seconds in his 100-meter heat, advancing to the final, where he placed fifth.
Richardson and Coleman, who have been dating for over two years, went public with their relationship in February 2025. This incident follows a 2023 controversy where Richardson was removed from an American Airlines flight after a dispute with a flight attendant, which she claimed was mishandled. Neither Richardson, her agent, nor USA Track and Field have commented on the arrest, with USATF stating, “USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter.”
