Just one day after concluding his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, Justin Timberlake shared a heartfelt Instagram post on July 31, 2025, disclosing his battle with Lyme disease throughout the nearly 16-month tour. Alongside behind-the-scenes photos, the pop icon opened up about the personal struggle behind his high-energy performances.
“As I’m reflecting on the tour and festival run,” Timberlake wrote, “I want to tell you a little bit about what’s going on with me.” He revealed his diagnosis with Lyme disease, a tick-borne bacterial illness causing symptoms like fever, fatigue, joint pain, neurological issues, and rashes, often misdiagnosed. “Among other things, I’ve been battling some health issues, and was diagnosed with Lyme disease — which I don’t say so you feel bad for me — but to shed some light on what I’ve been up against,” he explained.
Diagnosed while touring, Timberlake faced intense nerve pain, fatigue, and sickness but chose to continue performing. “When I first got the diagnosis I was shocked for sure,” he shared. “But at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness.” Faced with the choice to stop or persevere, he chose the latter, stating, “The joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I’m so glad I kept going.”
Lyme disease, per the Mayo Clinic, has also affected artists like Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, and Justin Bieber, who have shared their struggles with the condition. Timberlake’s tour, launched in April 2024 following his album Everything I Thought It Was, grossed over $73.2 million across 41 shows by May 2025, ranking him 10th in Billboard’s midyear Boxscore. His perseverance through health challenges adds a profound layer to the tour’s success.
Timberlake concluded with gratitude and resilience, underscoring the silent battles fought in the spotlight. For fans, his determination to deliver every performance despite physical and emotional challenges makes those moments under the stage lights even more meaningful.
