Ghana has shut down its Embassy in the Iranian capital of Tehran due to the ongoing war between Iran and Israel.

According to the Government of Ghana, the decision to close the Embassy was made in the interest of protecting Ghanaian lives.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, made the announcement in a post on social media on Monday, June 16, 2025.

According to Mr. Ablakwa, “The Mahama administration has, in the interest of the protection of Ghanaian lives, decided to immediately evacuate Ghanaians living in Iran following an escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict.”

He says “To Guarantee the safety of our Embassy staff, Ghana’s Embassy in Tehran has been closed with immediate effect.”

Iran and Israel have been attacking each other with missiles over the past few days.

Israel’s initial attack on Iran killed at least six Iranian scientists, top military commanders, and civilians including children. Iran launched retaliatory attacks on Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, injuring several people and killing a number of persons.
