Ghana: Kumasi Handbag Robber Jailed 10 Years After Pleading Guilty

 

A 22-year-old man named Christian Owusu has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison in Ghana for robbery.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the robbery incident took place in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

The police in a press release dated August 14, 2026, said the robbery incident was reported at the police station on July 21, 2026.

It says on July 21 at about 5:00 p.m, the victim reported that at about 12:21 p.m on the same day, while she was heading towards the Konkromase Township, she was threatened and robbed of her handbag, which contained her personal effects and cash.

It said following investigations into the incident, Christian Owusu was arrested on August 4, 2026 and subsequently put before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on August 7, presided over by judge Kwaku Baah Frimpong.

According to the release, the accused was charged with robbery and pleaded guilty to the charge, saying “He was subsequently convicted on his own plea.”
