Accra, Ghana – This Christmas Day, the Free Food Festival, led by Harriet Nartey and The Free Food Company (TFFC), brought joy and nourishment to thousands of families in Accra. 10,000 warm meals were distributed in Labadi, Osu, Nima, Odorkor, and to people encountered on the streets, demonstrating the spirit of giving and community support.
The atmosphere was truly special, with Harriet Nartey and TFFC leaders personally joining the team to distribute meals and food hampers. The event was filled with emotion, bringing tears of joy and heartfelt gratitude from recipients. “This isn’t just a meal; it’s hope, love, and a reminder that no one is forgotten,” shared Harriet.
The festival is part of TFFC’s ongoing commitment to fighting hunger and food waste in Ghana. Their flagship program, “Project 1440,” aims to provide a warm meal to someone in need every minute of the day, with a goal of distributing over half a million meals annually by 2025.
Lady Diana Naa Klokor Lartey, Co-Founder and CEO of TFFC, addressed concerns about the initiative being a one-time event. “This is far from a one-off exercise,” she explained. “By the end of 2025, our goal is to distribute over half a million meals annually and scale it even further from there to every second of the day. Initiatives like today are just one of many steps toward achieving this vision.”
To achieve this ambitious goal, TFFC launched The Food Pledge Challenge, urging individuals, businesses, and organizations across the food industry to sponsor meals.
Addressing concerns about dependency, TFFC Founder Prince Davidson emphasized their focus on empowerment. “Unemployment, unemployability and the exponentially increasing cost of living are the root causes of food insecurity in Ghana,” he noted. “Our programmes go beyond feeding people; we provide skills training and job placement opportunities, ensuring beneficiaries can become self-sufficient.”
The Free Food Festival’s success was fueled by generous sponsors, including the diplomatic community, Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, A&C Mall, Central Hotel, and numerous media partners like Pan African TV, Metro TV, and many others. Volunteers played a crucial role, embodying the true spirit of Christmas.
“To everyone who donated, volunteered, or helped amplify our message, you have been part of something truly special,” Harriet expressed. “Together, we’ve touched thousands of lives and created memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you for making this Christmas extraordinary.”
