South African Musicians Shine Bright at 3rd Annual Trace Awards & Summit

Zanzibar, Tanzania – The 3rd annual Trace Awards & Summit, held at the stunning Mora Resort in Zanzibar from February 24-26, was a resounding celebration of African music and culture. The event, which brought together some of the biggest names in the industry, saw four South African musicians take home top honors, solidifying their country’s position as a powerhouse of musical talent.

The Trace Awards & Summit, launched in 2023, is a live spectacle dedicated to honoring the “creativity, coolness, and confidence” of African and Afro-inspired music and culture. This global music platform highlights the achievements of artists, entrepreneurs, and visionaries across Africa and the diaspora, giving them the recognition they deserve.

Tyla, the global R&B sensation, was crowned Best Female Artist of the Year, cementing her status as a rising star in the music industry. Her distinct sound and unmatched artistry have taken the world by storm, and this award is a testament to her hard work and dedication.

Another South African powerhouse, Makhadzi, secured the Best Dancer award, solidifying her status as the queen of the dancefloor. Overwhelmed with gratitude, she took to Instagram to thank her fans, writing: “Congratulations khadzinators , GOD DID! YOU MADE IT FOR ME. BLESSINGS ON TOP OF BLESSINGS!” Makhadzi also hinted at an exciting new collaboration with Tanzanian Afrobeats sensation Konde Boy, promising even more fire for her fans.

Tyler ICU was named Best Artist Southern Africa, while the chart-topping duo Tito & Huppe took home Song of the Year for their dancefloor anthem “Tswhala Bam”, a track that has been making waves worldwide. These wins are a testament to the talent and creativity of South African musicians, who continue to dominate the global music scene.

Beyond South Africa’s wins, Nigerian superstar Rema stole the show, winning Album of the Year for “Rave & Roses” and Male Artist of the Year. Meanwhile, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz received the prestigious Best Global African Artist award, cementing his legacy as one of the continent’s finest. Adding a touch of nostalgia, Nigerian music legend D’Banj was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his enduring impact on African music.
