The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects, including an alleged gang leader, in connection with the robbery that claimed the life of Dominic Frimpong, a player for Berekum Chelsea F.C.
The police said the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation targeting individuals believed to be behind the deadly incident.
The coordinated effort, carried out by specialised police intelligence units, forms part of a broader crackdown on violent crime.
During the operation, one of the suspects reportedly opened fire on officers, triggering a gun battle. The suspect was shot, subdued, and taken into custody. He is currently under police guard receiving medical treatment at a health facility.
In a separate but related operation, police apprehended a second suspect believed to be the leader of the criminal gang.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the suspects as investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
The fatal robbery occurred on the night of Sunday, April 12, 2026, along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District. The Berekum Chelsea team was travelling from Samreboi to Berekum when their bus, carrying about 30 players and officials, was ambushed by six armed men, three of whom were armed with pump-action guns.
