Black Stars forward Michael Baidoo marked his debut for EFL Championship side Plymouth Argyle with a historic victory, as The Pilgrims pulled off the biggest upset of the 2024-2025 Emirates FA Cup Round 3 games. Plymouth defeated Premier League side Brentford 1-0 away from home, courtesy of an 82nd-minute strike by Morgan Whittaker.
The win propels Plymouth into the fourth round of the competition, a remarkable achievement for a club currently at the bottom of the Championship table and reeling from the recent sacking of head coach Wayne Rooney.
Baidoo, who joined Plymouth from Swedish side Elfsborg for a club-record fee of €1.75 million just a week ago, played 60 minutes in his debut. The 25-year-old showcased his potential with 17 touches, six successful passes out of nine attempts, and a perfect record in three ground duels before being substituted for Mustapha Bundu.
Prior to his transfer, Baidoo impressed with 10 goals in 27 league games for Elfsborg, earning him a call-up to the Black Stars. His promising start with Plymouth adds to the optimism surrounding his arrival, as the team looks to build on this FA Cup momentum in their fight for survival in the Championship.
The stunning victory against Brentford underscores Plymouth’s resilience and provides a glimmer of hope for a turnaround under their new leadership and with fresh talent like Baidoo in the squad.
