The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has disclosed that his country has lost about $78 million after the United States stopped USAID aid programs.
He made the disclosure while speaking at the World Health Assembly in Geneva on Monday, May 18, 2026.
According to Mahama, the money was used to support malaria treatment, mothers and children, nutrition, HIV testing, and HIV medicines across Ghana.
He bemoaned that many countries are receiving less foreign health support since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mahama has therefore appealed to African countries to invest more in their health systems and depend less on foreign aid.
