Ex-military leader, Yakubu Gowon, has expressed confidence in the ability of Nigeria to survive challenges, saying Africa’s most populous nation won’t fall despite the current challenges it faces.
According to him, Nigeria will overcome its current challenges and remain united.
Gowon, former head of state of Nigeria, was speaking on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Abuja at the launch of his autobiography, ‘My Life of Duty and Allegiance’.
He stated that his belief in the oneness of Nigeria has remained unwavering since his time in office.
Gowon recounted that “during my time as head of state, the country did not fall, and I remain confident that despite all her challenges, Nigeria will still not fall,” revealing that reflection on his years of service continues to strengthen his optimism about the country’s future.
He says “Each time I reflect on my service to this country, I become even more persuaded that Nigeria can become better and achieve her full potential as the giant of Africa.”
