A Ghanaian Member of Parliament (MP), Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has reportedly been arrested and detained in the Netherlands over an alleged $32 million fraud.

Mr. Frimpong, who represents the Asante Akyem North Constituency in the Parliament of Ghana, was reportedly arrested at the Schipol Airport in the Netherlands over the weekend.

His arrest is reported to be linked to an investigation being carried out by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Reports say the FBI investigation is in connection to allegations of money laundering and romance scam amounting to $32 million.

On Tuesday, the Clerk of the Parliament of Ghana, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, issued a statement to confirm Frimpong’s arrest.

According to the statement, Parliament was engaging with the Embassy of Ghana in The Hague to get information on the MP’s case.

The statement says “It has come to the attention of Parliament that, the Hon Member for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr Kwame Ohene Frimpong has been detained at the Schipol Airport, Amsterdam in the Netherlands.”

It added “The Rt Hon Speaker and the Leadership of the House are in touch with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague for detailed information on the matter. The public will be duly informed appropriately on this matter.”
