FanMilk Ghana has officially announced Quaye Nungua R/C Basic School as the overall winner of this year’s FanMilk School Caravan. The celebration included the presentation of the top award and the commissioning of a refurbished ICT lab for the school.
The event took place on the school’s premises in Nungua and brought together students, teachers, education officials, members of the Municipal Assembly, and other key stakeholders to honour a program that showcases excellence in plastic waste collection and environmental education among students. Quaye Nungua R/C Basic emerged as the overall winner in Accra by collecting 10,989 wrappers. They lead a group of five top-performing schools across the Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Western regions, each receiving a legacy project.
“At FanMilk, we believe that a snack is only truly enjoyed when its wrapper is safely disposed of in a recycling bin,” said Lionel Parent, Managing Director of FanMilk Ghana. “We are proud of what these students have accomplished. This effort goes beyond simply collecting wrappers; it is about instilling lifelong habits. We at FanMilk are pleased to commission this ICT lab, which will support your learning, nurture your curiosity, and prepare you for the future. We hope it will provide you with the tools to explore, innovate, and solve the challenges around you.”
The FanMilk School Caravan engages students in waste collection and recycling activities while promoting healthy snacking. Since its inception in 2018, the program has reached over 500,000 students and collected million wrappers, helping to foster a culture of responsibility in schools and communities. And in 2025, the caravan activated over 1000 schools across three regions; Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Western, reaching over 507,000 students and collecting more than 11.2 million wrappers. These wrappers are recycled in partnership with MiniPlast Ghana Limited and repurposed into bin liners, contributing to a circular approach to plastic waste management.
Stephen Kwaku Owusu, Technical Advisor, Pre-Tertiary, Ministry of Education, speaking on behalf of the Minister for Education, emphasised the significance of such partnerships in national development. “What we are witnessing goes beyond a school competition. These students are learning values that will shape their contributions to Ghana in the future. They are demonstrating that protecting the environment is a patriotic responsibility we must all take seriously. We commend their courage in taking action to protect our environment.”
The awards extended to four other standout schools. In Accra, Association Community Model Basic School took second place (9,485 wrappers) and received a KG playground.
refurbishment, while Ashma Tsui-Bleoo No. 2 Basic placed third (8,905 wrappers) with a new ICT lab. In the Ashanti Region, Maakro M/A Basic won an ICT lab for collecting 9,186 wrappers, and in the Western Region, Windo Methodist School was rewarded with a renovated KG block for their efforts.
“A clean environment is the first line of defence for healthy students,” said Mrs Oppong-Mensah, National SHEP Director. “By eradicating millions of wrappers from their campus, these students have reduced health risks and created a better learning environment. We hope this culture of cleanliness will remain with them for life.”
The headteacher of Quaye Nungua R/C Basic School, Georgina Ahiagba, expressed gratitude for the recognition and pride in the students’ achievement.
“This acknowledgement means a great deal to us as a school. Our students have demonstrated commitment and teamwork throughout this program. We are proud of their accomplishments, and this ICT lab will significantly support their learning.”
FanMilk Ghana continues to collaborate with the Ghana Education Service and SHEP to expand the reach of the School Caravan, focusing on taming a generation that values both health and environmental responsibility.
