Riza Simpson, the ex-girlfriend of 61-year-old actor Djimon Hounsou, was arrested last week following an alleged physical altercation at the couple’s Atlanta townhouse. The arrest stems from an incident reported by the Gladiator actor in December 2025.
Allegations of Physical Assault
According to an Atlanta Police Department incident report, Hounsou informed officers that on December 2, 2025, he asked Simpson to move out of their shared residence. In response, Simpson allegedly struck the actor in the face with a closed fist.
Hounsou noted that their two children were at home during the altercation. While they were upstairs and did not witness the strike, he stated they likely heard the commotion. Hounsou also has a 16-year-old son from a previous relationship with Kimora Lee Simmons.
The Arrest and Obstruction Charges
On Friday, January 16, officers arrived at the townhouse with an arrest warrant for Simpson. The arrest was marked by further complications:
- Obstruction: Officers reportedly saw Simpson through the windows closing the blinds. However, when they called her, she allegedly claimed she was currently driving to the house and needed ten minutes.
- Entry: After police informed her they were entering the residence, Simpson opened the door.
- Presence of Children: Officers reported hearing crying in the background and confirmed that children were present during the arrest.
Legal Charges and Booking
Simpson was booked at the Atlanta City Detention Center and faces the following charges:
- Simple Assault (Domestic Violence): Two misdemeanor counts.
- Obstruction: For allegedly providing false information to police.
- Battery – Family Violence: Listed as a first offense in her booking records.
The incident was first reported by TMZ and the Daily Mail following the release of the official police report.
