Nigerian music star David Adeleke (Davido) has announced that he is formally joining the Accord Party, aligning politically with his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who recently adopted the party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Davido disclosed the move on Tuesday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, saying he would travel to Osogbo on Wednesday to receive his party membership card at Imole House, the governor’s official residence.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card at Imole House, Osogbo,” the singer wrote, tagging Governor Adeleke.
Davido’s announcement follows Governor Adeleke’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party. The governor formally unveiled Accord as his new political platform on December 9, 2025, during an event at the Government House in Osogbo attended by national and state party leaders.
Governor Adeleke explained that his decision was driven by internal leadership crises within the PDP, which he said had made it unsuitable for his re-election bid.
“I joined the Accord Party on November 6 after wide consultations with stakeholders,” the governor said at the unveiling. “It is the platform on which I intend to seek re-election in 2026.”
He added that Accord’s welfarist ideology aligns with his administration’s focus on social welfare and workers’ well-being.
Timeline of Defection
• November 4, 2025: Governor Adeleke submitted his resignation letter to PDP ward officials in Ede North
• December 1, 2025: He publicly confirmed his exit from the PDP
• December 9, 2025: He officially unveiled the Accord Party as his new political home
Davido had earlier reacted to his uncle’s PDP exit by reposting the announcement online with the caption, “Jeje…” — a post that drew widespread attention.
The Afrobeats star’s decision to formally register with Accord has generated significant discussion on social media and among political observers, highlighting the increasing role of celebrity influence in Nigerian politics, particularly at the subnational level.
While Davido has not indicated plans to seek political office, analysts say his public support could help boost youth engagement and visibility for the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship race.
