Senegal President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has been elected Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
He was elected on Sunday, July 19, 2026 during the ECOWAS meeting of Authority of Heads of State and Government in Sierra Leone.
Faye takes over the leadership of ECOWAS from Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio.
He will serve a one-year tenure.
