Ghana: Police Arrest 40 Persons In Obuasi Swoops On Criminal Hideouts

Ghana’s Obuasi Police Command has arrested some 40 suspects in a dawn swoops on criminal hideouts in the area.

According to the Command, the operation leading to the arrest of the 40 suspects was carried out on Monday, December 16, 2025.

Police said they carried out the operation between 5:00 a.m. and 10:20 am.

Leading the swoops was ASP Adam Muakalu. Officers from the Divisional Operations Unit of Obuasi District, and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) Obuasi Base, conducted the swoops.

A police situation report indicated that the operation targeted several areas, including Bedieso, Kunka Junction, Abompe, and Akaporiso, all suburbs of Obuasi.

Police said at Bedieso, eight suspects were arrested and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis were retrieved from a black polythene bag.

The police officers went to Kunka Junction, where they found one suspect to be in possession of a wrapped package of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis. Eleven additional suspects who attempted to flee upon spotting the police were arrested after officers rounded them up.

At Abompe, police arrested many suspects who were allegedly smoking in a ghetto. Among the items retrieved were two bottles of alcohol suspected to have been laced with cannabis.

At Akaporiso, near Obuasi, police retrieved another quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis from a suspect. Additional arrests were made at the back of an uncompleted building, where suspects were allegedly smoking and drinking alcohol.

Officers also seized a pack of tramadol during the exercise.

In total, 40 suspects were arrested and are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. All seized exhibits are being retained at the station for forensic examination.

According to police, suspects found to have illegal substances will be arraigned before the court as soon as possible.
