The Committee set up by the government of Ghana to investigate the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash in which two Ghanaian Ministers and six other individuals died, has stated that the crash was caused by a sudden loss of altitude and lift resulting from a powerful downdraft.

On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the Committee presented its findings during a public briefing.

A member of the Committee, Captain (Rtd) Paul Forjoe, says the helicopter experienced abrupt changes in environmental conditions while flying over high terrain, leading to the deadly crash.

He says “The investigation determined that the accident was caused by the sudden loss of altitude and lift due to downdraft.”

According to him, “This loss of altitude without a change in power or pitch altitude is consistent with a downdraft associated with changing environmental conditions over high terrain.”

Acting Defence Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, chaired the Committee. The Committee was tasked with determining the cause of the crash and recommending preventive measures.

The final report of the Committee highlighted technical, operational, and environmental factors as contributing to the crash.
