Law enforcement officers in Ghana have arrested 10 persons for allegedly creating fake online food delivery platforms and defrauding unsuspecting customers of renowned fast food vendors like KFC, Papaye, Mawarko and Pizzaman.
The Ghana Police Service announced the arrests of the suspects in a statement dated Monday, October 13, 2025, signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
According to the statement, the initial six suspects, identified as Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah, were arrested during a targeted operation conducted on October 1, 2025 at Sogakope.
It said “The operation followed sustained intelligence gathering, which led to the arrest of three males and three females suspected to be behind the fraudulent scheme.”
The statement further noted that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had created fake websites and social media pages impersonating well-known food brands such as Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko.
It added that “Victims who placed orders through these fake platforms were directed to make advance payments via mobile money, after which they never received the food they ordered.”
According to the statement, further investigations indicated that, in some cases, the suspects gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts under the guise of assisting them with payments and subsequently withdrew funds.
It noted that “Digital devices believed to have been used in the fraudulent activities were retrieved and are undergoing forensic examination.”
The statement revealed that subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the main suspect on October 12, 2025 and three others from their hideout at Haatso in Accra.
It said “The newly arrested suspects are Elijah Sotama Etse, alias Pop Smoke (the syndicate leader), Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli. Twelve mobile phones were retrieved from the suspects and are being preserved for forensic examination.”
The remaining four suspects
According to the statement, “All ten suspects are currently in police custody and will be put before court today, Monday, 13th October 2025. The Ghana Police Service is also urging members of the public who may have been fallen victim to this fraudulent scheme to report to the nearest police station to assist ongoing investigations.”
