Cardi B vs. Nicki Minaj: Feud Reignites in Explosive Social Media War

The long-running feud between rappers Cardi B and Nicki Minaj recently reached an unprecedented level of hostility during a three-day back-and-forth on X (formerly Twitter). What began as a chart dispute quickly devolved into intensely personal attacks, escalating into the most explosive iteration of their conflict since 2018.

The Catalyst: A Platinum Album

The public dispute began on Monday, September 29, shortly after Cardi B announced that her latest project, “Am I the Drama?”, had been certified double platinum by the RIAA just ten days after its release. The album also debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200, shifting 200,000 units with 146 million streams.

The controversy was ignited when Minaj reportedly suggested that the impressive sales figures for Cardi B’s album were inflated.

Escalation and Peer Pressure

Cardi B swiftly moved past subliminal tweets to direct attacks, urging Minaj to compare herself not to newer artists, but to her own peers who debuted around the same time.

In a scathing reply, Cardi B wrote:

“You been in the game like 16 years.. you need to compare yourself to YOUR peers that started around YOUR time. Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Drake… those are the numbers you need to be competing with and you can’t because you are doing lower than all of them.”

Crossing the Line: Family Attacks

The feud took a severe turn for the worse as the rappers dragged their families, and specifically their children, into the conflict. The personal shots included:

  • Cardi B referencing Minaj’s past struggles with fertility.
  • Minaj firing back by mocking Cardi B’s children.

While both artists eventually deleted the posts involving their children, the highly publicized jabs were widely captured and circulated by gossip blogs, shocking fans over the personal boundaries that were crossed.

Cardi B’s ‘Final Statement’

The online war seemed to culminate with a lengthy message from Cardi B, addressed directly to Minaj using her government name, Onika Tanya Maraj. Cardi B stated this would be her “last time responding,” implying a shift from online to a potential face-to-face confrontation: “I gotta see you…”.

In this statement, Cardi B accused Minaj of refusing to seek help for her issues and claimed that Minaj’s husband fuels her negative behavior. She concluded by declaring her refusal to let the drama damage her career and endorsements, signing off with:

“I’m not throwing away my career and my endorsements going back and forth with words with a possessed drug addict.. I’LL SEE YOU WHEN I SEE YOU.

Despite Cardi B’s attempt to end the digital fight, Minaj continued to post, attempting to involve media personalities such as Harvey Levin and Gayle King. Cardi B doubled down on her personal accusations, calling Minaj a “crackhead” and alleging that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia years ago.

This latest public spat marks a significant, and potentially irreparable, low point in a rivalry that has been simmering since 2018.

Do you think these public feuds ultimately help or hurt the careers of high-profile artists like Cardi B and Nicki Minaj in the modern music industry?
