Hashmin Mohammed challenges Kwasi Kwarteng to prove Education Minister received Obuasi SHS letter

Spokesperson to Ghana’s Education Minister, Hashmin Mohammed, has challenged former Education Ministry Public Relations Officer Kwasi Kwarteng to provide documentary evidence to support his claim that the Minister received a letter concerning the alleged sexual abuse at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) but failed to act.

In a Facebook post, Mr Mohammed said the office of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu had no record of receiving the letter allegedly written by the school’s old students on July 26, 2025.

Mr Kwarteng had cited the correspondence in a social media post titled “Both the Education Minister and the Director-General of GES Should Step Aside If the Government Is Serious About Investigating the Obuasi SHS Abuses.”

Mr Mohammed maintained that the Minister acted promptly after investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni brought the allegations to his attention.

According to him, Mr Iddrisu instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure the immediate suspension of the school’s headmaster and subsequently wrote to the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) requesting a thorough investigation.

“If you have documentary evidence establishing that the letter was received by the Minister’s office, I would welcome its publication so that the matter can be examined objectively,” Mr Mohammed said.

He added that his clarification was limited to the records available to the Minister’s office and did not extend to the internal correspondence of the GES Director-General’s office.
