One of Africa’s leading carriers, Ethiopian Airlines’ has posted a $7.6 billion revenue for the financial year-ending 2024/2025.
The $7.6 billion represents an 8% rise in the Airlines revenue financial year that ended on 7 July 2025.
Speaking to journalists at a news conference, group chief executive Mesfin Tasew announced that Ethiopian Airlines transported 19.1 million passengers during the year.
“The airlines performed well during the budget year amid regional conflicts in the Middle East, Ukraine, Sudan and DR. Congo, slowing down of the world economy and the introduction of new laws and regulations by the United States,” Tasew said in a briefing.
He said Available Seat Kilometres of the airline during the budget year showed a 9 percent growth compared to the previous budget year while its Revenue Passenger Kilometres saw a 14 percent increase.
Recalling that the airlines launched six international passenger services during the budget year as part of an effort to broaden its international outreach, the CEO said 13 new passenger aircrafts were put into operation during the period to step up its growth and profitability.
The chief executive said the national carrier is set to add 20 aircrafts in 2026 to accommodate the growing number of passengers, noting that the airline has experienced late delivery of aircrafts from plane manufacturers including from the Boeing Company.
Ethiopian has a fleet of more than 150 aircraft. On Saturday, it took delivery of its fourth Airbus A350-1000 plane.
In June, Tasew said the airline was looking into the possibility of ordering at least 20 regional or small narrow-body jets as part of plans to expand its domestic fleet and replace some ageing aircraft.
